The Gender, Institutions and Development Database (GID-DB) presents comparative data on gender equality. It has been compiled from secondary sources such as Gender Stats and the Human Development Report as well as from indepth reviews of country case studies. Detailed country notes available from the small (i) next to country names.

The Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI) is a new composite measure of gender discrimination based on social institutions. It measures gender inequality in five areas: Family Code, Physical Integrity, Son Preference, Civil Liberties and Ownership Rights in 102 non-OECD countries.

Most of the data available in the UNECE Gender Statistics Database have been supplied by National Statistical Offices through the network of Gender Statistics Focal Points.

Developed with the contribution of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the database is regularly up-dated to take account of new books and articles produced throughout the world on the subject of women in politics. It covers titles representing international, regional, country-by-country as well as thematic perspectives. A separate page on this site lists a number of useful Web links on this subject.
